Thomas Burrell of Myrtle Beach passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.
Mr. Thomas M. Burrell, IV went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 6, 2024, surrounded by his wife, children, and sister, Patricia Burrell. He was born on April 23, 1954, to his loving parents, the late Thomas and the late Rosa Burrell. He was raised in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina by his grandmother, Theresa Hamlin.
Thomas attended Carver Schools and graduated from Myrtle Beach High School in 1972 where he played football and basketball. His father trained him at a young age in martial arts, progressing and receiving a black belt in the sport. He attended South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina, graduating in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. During his tenure at South Carolina State, he was a captain of the swim team and he also was in ROTC. Thomas later went to graduate school at Xavier University in New Orleans. He later attended Horry Georgetown Technical College and received his certification in Computer Aided Design in Applied Science in May of 2014.
He was commissioned in the United States Army serving for four years. During his time of service, he ranked as a Captain and served as a Ranger.
Thomas operated in a leadership role. He had great qualities inspiring others, and motivating them to succeed as he had done to accomplish many great things in his lifetime. He furthered his career at General Motors for 17 years and while working there he was a Q-Tech Engineer. After leaving General Motors, he then moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and married his high school sweetheart, Katherine Burrell. He joined Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church and became a part of the media ministry.
Thomas leaves to cherish a beautiful memory to the love of his life and very devoted wife, Katherine Burrell; children, Tammy McCallum of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Syreeta (Nikia) Bannister of Charleston, South Carolina and Taurus McRae of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; one brother, Kenneth (Uvette) Burrell of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; one sister, Patricia Burrell of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; one aunt, Dorothy (Massey) Rose of Columbia, South Carolina; two special cousins, Juandra "Wendy" Burris and Amira Mohammed, one special niece, Kenika Burrell; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Pine Island Community Cemetery. There will be a viewing from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Ocean View Funeral Home and Beach Crematory, Myrtle Beach Chapel.
