VERNETTE JACKSON-MORMAN Obituary

MRS. VERNETTE VELINA JACKSON-MORMAN, (64) was born December 16, 1955 to the late Moses Jackson and Ruth Jackson-Bennett. Vernette was born in Washington, DC weighing 9lbs. 14oz. at birth. She departed this earthly life on Friday, January 10, 2020.

Vernette was an exceptional good baby and young girl. Vernette was sweet and lovable, (so my mother said). Vernette was always a brikkiant child in school, making the honor roll. She received her high school diploma in 1973 from Fairmont Heights High School and she sung in the choir. She then studied at Bowie State College in Bowie, MD. She sang with the Youth and Young Adult of The Unity Choral Union, The Senior Choir of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Washington, DC and The Friends and Family Choir in the DC area.

Vernette had a caring heart and a giving spirit. In June of 1978, she again was able to relate to a father in the remarriage of her mother to her stepfather, Fred Bennett, and gained four stepbrothers. An easy relationship developed into a real father/daughter combination. In January 1979, Vernette was stricken with cancer (Hodgkins Wise Disease) and the doctors gave her up to die. The doctors said there was no hope BUT Vernette's hope was in Christ Jesus (the day Vernette died and came back to life). Even after Vernette's discharge from the hospital on March 3, 1979, she was still very ill. She expressed her desire to go to Elder Song's Church for prayer. Vernette wished that Elder Song would lay his hands on her and pray for her. That's what Elder Song did. From that day on, Vernette began getting up and moving around on her own. Isn't God Good!

Vernette was preceded in death by her father: Moses Jackson; mother: Ruth Bennett; stepfather: Freddy Bennett; brothers: Darryl Jackson, David Bennett, Danny Bennett; sister: Vashti Green.

Vernette relocated to Conway, SC with her husband Cornell. Upon her relocation she united with the Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church where she became active in Bible Study, Senior Ministry and Vacation Bible School. She was faithful and loyal while her health permitted. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Cornell Morman; sons: Delonte Hayes and Rayshaundo Hayes; daughter: Jazmyne Cole; grandson: Phillip Hayes; granddaughters: Deanjee Hayes, Quierra Hayes; sister: Veronica Morgan (Wayne; brothers: Derek Bennett (Stephanie), Richard Bennett (Janelle); brother-in-law: Eric Morman (Toni); sister-in-law: Sherrie Wilson (Charles) and a host of Family and Friends.

Funeral Services will be held 12:00 {Noon} Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will be held one {1} hour prior to the service.
