Andrew M. McCray of Carolina Forest passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021, at Embrace Hospice House.
Andrew Matthew McCray - lovingly known as Uncle Fuzzy. He was the son of the late Mr. Taylor McCray, Jr. and Mrs. Rena Williams McCray was born February 19, 1945 in Conway, South Carolina. He departed this life on March 25, 2021 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina at Embrace Hospice House peacefully.
He attended public school in Horry County. He was an excellent chess player, there was none better than him.
He moved to New York as a young man and married the late Diane Marshall-McCray.
He joined Key to Heaven Tabernacle and served faithfully as an ordained Deacon under the leadership of Elder James McClary. He owned his own limousine business as a Personal Assistant to Ralph Lauren for many years, and later worked in maintenance.
He later re-married the late Ethel Myers-McCray of Sampit, South Carolina.
He moved his church membership and was ordained as a Minister with The Apostolic House of Deliverance in Brooklyn, New York under the leadership of Pastor Ronell Sarvis. He relocated back to South Carolina after retiring, where he joined New Hope Union Methodist Episcopal Church under the leadership of Bishop Willie Green, Jr.
After the death of his devoted wife Ethel Myers-McCray, he moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and joined Greater True Light Ministries under the leadership of Bishop David L. Baxter, Jr.
Two of his children preceded him in death, Taylor and Deborah McCray of Brooklyn, New York. He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters: Carolyn L. Knight (Louis) New Jersey; Cartheria Prince-Palmer (George), Washington, District of Columbia; one son: Michael McCray, Bronx, New York; Stepdaughter: Susan Prior (Tony) Detroit, Michigan; one devoted sister who he loved dearly: Bonnie McCray, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Seven grandchildren: Darnell (Shaquina), Latoya, Rayshawn, Louis, III, Laneiqua, Laquasha of Willingboro, New Jersey, Alexander of Washington, District of Columbia, Sasha of Delaware, Allan of New York, and Travis of Michigan.
He loved his eight great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, one special friend: Pastor Lawrence Myers, Sampit, South Carolina, one dear cousin/ brother: Vern Cochran of Mt. Holly, New Jersey other relatives and friends.
Also preceded him in death two sisters Alpahere Holoman, Hazeltine McCray and one brother Earnest McCray.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Owens Cemetery in Bucksport. Ocean View Funeral Home, Myrtle Beach Chapel is assisting the McCray Family.
