Bobbie Jean Ortiz, daughter of the late John Mark Simmons and Bessie C. Simmons was born on November 10, 1942 in Myrtle Beach, SC. She departed this life on December 23, 2020. Proceeding her in death 2 brothers and one sister: Mark Simmons, Jr., James Harold Simmons, and Mattie Pearl Simmons.
At an early age, Bobbie converted her life to the Lord and joined Mount Olive AME of Myrtle Beach, SC. Later she moved to Rhode Island, NY and married Jimmy Ortiz. While living in New York she joined the Greater Allen Cathedral of New York where she started the food pantry and soup kitchen in April 1993 with only 35 recipients a month. Now, feeding 10,000 recipients a month. With it's growth the name is now Allen Outreach Feeding program. Bobbie headed this program until she fell ill in 2003. She was also a member of the Stewardess Board and an Evangelist. As her health failed, she moved back home to Myrtle Beach, SC. She joined St. Paul AME Church in Little River, SC., where she was a faithful member until her death.
Bobbie was a foster parent to many children. She and Jimmy adopted two girls that she couldn't live without. She leaves her memories to cherish to her two daughters Christina Laura Ortiz (VA),Theresa Katherine Ortiz (NY), and 5 sisters, Patricia Burgess (SC), Joyce Robinson (NC), Louvenia Graham (SC), Stephanie Simmons (SC), and Pamela Wilson (VA); grandchildren; Brianna Veras (NY), Gabriel Ortiz (SC), Ethan Ortiz (NY). One aunt, Lefolia Simmons (SC), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other sorrowing relatives and friends.
Bobbie Jean Ortiz of Longs passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Saturday, January 2, 2020, at Ocean View Funeral Home, Myrtle Beach Chapel.
