Calvin Rogers Obituary

Calvin Rogers of Conway passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023.

Calvin Rogers also known as "Bay Rat", husband, dad, brother, grandfather, and friend to many, departed this life on October 5, 2023, in the privacy of his residence. Calvin Rogers was born in Georgetown County on June 20, 1954, to the deceased parents of George Rogers and Francis Gause Rogers. Calvin Rogers attended Georgetown County Schools and was employed at Wolverine Brass and Walmart both of Myrtle Beach South Carolina where he provided over 20 years of professional maintenance services.

Calvin Rogers was a man who was honored and loved by many. He had a spirit that brought laughter and joy to whomever he encountered throughout his life journey. He rarely met a stranger but most importantly he carried a gift of "Help". For many of you who have had the pleasure of meeting Calvin Rogers, would all agree that there was never a time he declined the opportunity to assist others expecting nothing more in return. Yes, he had a heart of gold and understood the principle of giving. Due to this, Calvin Rogers was blessed by many within his family and community. Calvin Rogers loved the Lord. He was a faithful member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Ronald K. Henry Sr.

Calvin Rogers enjoyed dancing and listening to good music during his spare time. When he was not helping others, you would most likely find Calvin in his happy place (home) sifting on his back porch listening to different genres of music as he would energetically move to the beat and sing to the melodies of each sound. One of his favorite songs was God Will Heal the Land by Reverend F.C. Barnes & Company. Notice that even in the title of his favorite song, his focus was not on himself but on the healing of all. The holidays, in particular Christmas was one occasion he looked forward to. He would spend hours decorating his home with many lights and thoughtfully planned out the family meals to be prepared because he understood that there is joy in eating and looked forward to bringing a smile on everyone's faces with his popular dishes: chicken bog, collard greens, deer meat, and fried turkey was his mission. Upon arrival, you will be sure to see him sitting on his front porch as he was anxiously waiting to greet you with warmth and love while listening to Silent Night by the Temptations.

Preceding him in death are siblings, Carrie Sumter, Leroy Rogers, Jimmy Rogers, Howard Rogers, and Georgie Anna Sumter; brothers-in-law, Thadd Sumter and Thomas Davis; sister-in-law, Nancy Rogers.

Calvin Rogers is survived by his loving wife Willie Bell Rogers of Conway South Carolina; his sons, Cedric Rogers (Kim Rogers); Raymond Wilkins, Darryl Rogers, Carlos Sumter, Rodney Spain, Rico Spain, and Harry Bellamy; his daughters, Melita Moore, Rachel Bellamy, Cheryl Bellamy, Jennifer Bellamy, and Amanda Bellamy; his sisters, Azalee Davis of Spartanburg SC, Ursell Rogers of New Haven Connecticut, and Margaree Rogers of Spartanburg SC; a very special nephew, Johnathan Sumter (Pudgy), and a host of grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
