Catherine Dewitt-Wilson Obituary

Catherine Dewitt Wilson, lovingly known as "Cookie," was born on June 4, 1959, in Conway, South Carolina, to the late Woodrow and Effie Dewitt. As the third of six children, she was raised in a family where love, support, and togetherness were foundational to her upbringing.

Cookie’s life was marked by love, dedication, and commitment. She met the love of her life, Mr. Fredderick Wilson and they were united in Holy Matrimony on July 14, 2007. Together, they raised two beautiful daughters, Shayla and Ashley, who were the center of her world. Her love extended beyond her immediate family to include her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Cookie’s life was an embodiment of versatility, ambition, and hard work. From a young age, she demonstrated a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. She studied cosmetology at Conway Cosmetology, became the proud owner of Cookie’s Night Club, and worked as a dedicated employee of Horry County Public Schools. Additionally, she served as a waitress, freelance photographer, caretaker, and homemaker—always giving her best in all she did.

Cookie joined Bethel A.M.E. Church at an early age, Cookie's faith in God was the foundation of her life. She loved her God deeply, and her spiritual journey guided her through both the joys and challenges of life. Her unwavering faith and devotion were evident in everything she did.

Cookie had a passion for life that was infectious. She loved her family deeply and was always there to create lasting memories, whether through capturing family photos, organizing gatherings, or planning exciting trips such as BINGO and casino adventures. She lived each moment with intention and joy, spreading love wherever she went. Her unique ability to connect with people and her gift for bringing together resources to help others made her a cherished presence in the lives of many. Cookie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Woodrow and Effie Dewitt; her grandparents, Frank and Sadie Onley, Charles, and Nancy Dewitt; her siblings, Priscilla King, and Woodrow Dewitt, Jr.; and her special friends, Alice Pyatt and Pamela Kelly.

On Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the age of 65, Cookie peacefully passed away, surrounded by her family’s love. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to live on in the hearts of all those she touched.
