Oh taste and see that the Lord is good, blessed is the man that trusteth in him. Psalm 34: 8
Ceslyn M. Hodges was born on July 20, I938, the daughter of the late Reginald Phillips and Leanna Johnson. Ceslyn attended Waltham Abby All Age Community School in Woodstown, St. Ann Jamaica. She unfortunately left school at the tender age of I2 to work and care for one of her younger siblings Lilly (Cynthia) and her sick mother until her passing.
Ceslyn accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at Brown's Town Baptist Church in St. Ann. She then later joined the Moving Church of God in Runaway Bay St. Ann in the 80's and remained a faithful servant for over 30 years. Ceslyn was employed as a Nanny in her younger life and worked at a number of hotels later as a Housekeeper. She had a special love for little children and they were so attached to her because she took very good care of them as they were her own.
Ceslyn met Terrence Hodges in the late 50's and they were joined in Holy Matrimony on March IS, I969. Together, they had 6 children, two boys and four girls. She was a great cook, and loved baking especially from scratch. She was the epitome of the well-known Jamaican saying, "she Lickle but she Tallawah", which simply means, she is small but mighty. She was a no non-sense person with quick wit to match. Ceslyn was also fiercely protective to the extent of disregarding her own safety if it meant protecting those she loved.
Over the many well spent years providing for her family, raising grandchildren, and inflicting positivity on to her community, Ceslyn retired. During her retirement, she stayed very active by farming in her backyard and was never afraid to get her hands dirty. Occasionally, she would go on vacations to visit family. After all if you tell her to relax and take it easy, she would tell you that she had as much energy as a girl at sixteen. She migrated to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to live with daughter Stepheney, son-in-law Michael, and grandchildren Tori-Ann and Jodi-Ann in November 20I8.
She adapted to living in the Myrtle Beach area with her daughter and family quite easily. Her hearing declined over time but she was still in high spirits. She enjoyed going shopping with the family, taking short walks, and enjoyed sitting outside to admire nature when the weather was good. Ceslyn attended Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church where her daughter Stepheney worshipped. She later decided to join the church and was given the right hand of fellowship and was received upon her Christian experience and remained a faithful member until her passing. She is absent in body but is present with the Lord.
Ceslyn was preceded in death by her husband, Terrence Hodges; a son, Devon Hodges; her parents and thirteen siblings.
Left behind to cherish her memories are her children, Marilyn Hodges, Paul Hodges, Patricia Hodges-Lawrence, Stepheney Hodges-McCrae (Michael), and Ann-Marie Hodges-Forbes (Canute), twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters, Maude and Lilly; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and special friends, Mrs. Pat Hayden, Avril Miller and Mrs. Margaret Hector
