Charles Jones

Mr. Charles Benjamin “Kookie” Jones, 77 was born on July 12, 1944, to the late William H and Minnie R Jones. He was called to his eternal home on Sunday, October 17, 2021.

Charles grew up in the Cochran Community and was educated at Whittemore Elementary and High School in Conway, SC. Upon, graduating he moved to Newark, NJ and begin his career with PSE&G in 1968 where he started as a construction helper and worked through the ranks and ascended to District Supervisor and retired with 38 years of service.

While, residing in New Jersey he joined St. Luke AME church where was a faithful member of the Herring Gospel Chorus. Charles lived a very active life during his stay in New Jersey, he was a former member of the Tonic Social Club and the Tyre Tigers Softball Team. He was also the Past Master of Tyre Lodge #14.

Upon retiring in 2005, he returned to Conway, SC and reconnected with his home church Greater St. James AME. Charles was a avid Sunday School attendee, he was member of the Male Chorus, Trustee Board and Sons of Allen.

On May 25, 1985, he was joined in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life Angelena Norman, who preceded him in death.  One sister Nettie R Jones and one brother George W Jones, who also preceded him in death.

Charles leaves to cherish his memory a devoted son, Dwayne Jones of Conway, SC;  two sisters Mamie Lee Turner (William) of Middleburg, NC and Vivian Iszard of Newark, NJ; two brothers Larry J Jones (Sandra) and Rev. Woodrow Jones (Dorothy) of Conway, SC;  four sister in laws Georgia M Jones of Galivants Ferry, SC; Margaret Hunt of Roper, NC; Gail Petterson of Virginia Beach, VA; Earline Allen of Virginia Beach, VA; one brother in law Earl Norman Jr of Rochester, NY;  one aunt Mable Johnson of Conway, SC;  eight grandchildren Jakai Jones, Isaiah Jones, Dayanna Jones, Jarov, Jr., Damani Jones, DeAndre Jones, Bernard Jones and Angelina Gibson. Charles also touched and shaped the lives of many children Yasmine, Niheema, Ta’nesah, William, Reggie, and Stephaine and Jarodd Jr.

He also leaves to cherish his fond memories a friend Minnie Sandidge and a host of nieces, nephews, and other sorrowing relatives.

Charles Jones of Conway passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021. A viewing will be held Friday, October 22, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Ocean View Funeral Home and Beach Crematory, Conway Chapel. There will be a funeral service held at 11:00 AM Saturday October 23, 2021 at Greater St. James AME Church in Conway.
