Obituary

David E. Myers of Myrtle Beach passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023.

David Elijah Myers was born to Dan and Mary Myers on May 18, I948 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. David arrived having six other siblings who showered him with love and affection. Later, two more siblings would be born — making the family a solid base of nine.

Education was of utmost importance in the Myers family. As such, David attended Elementary school in Burgess, South Carolina. Subsequently, he graduated from Whittemore High School in Conway, South Carolina. He was loved and respected by his fellow classmates.

David was raised in a home based on Biblical principles and a love for the Lord Jesus Christ. Thus, it was easy for David to accept the Lord as his personal Savior. At a very early age, David confessed a love for God. As a child, he joined St. James United Methodist Church, where he regularly and actively participated in the Sunday School training program and youth meetings.

After completing high school, David decided to pursue a career in New York City. Shortly after arriving in the city, he obtained a job with the New York Transit. David served in this capacity for more than 28 years bringing a sense of dignity and honor to the career. While there, he married and fathered three children. He also became involved in his local community. David set a standard for young men to emulate. He was known far and wide for his strong work ethic and commitment to family. David later became a mason and joined Joppa Lodge #55 in New York City, where he continued to serve his community by providing relief and assistance to those in need and walking in brother love and truth.

In the latter years of David's life, his faith was of paramount importance. A kind and gentle soul, David entreated all of his family members to accept Jesus as Lord. He was adamant about embracing and sharing his faith with anyone who did not have a personal relationship with the Lord.

On Saturday, September 2, 2023, David was called home to be with Jesus Christ, whom he loved. An awesome father, brother, grandfather, and friend was called to enter into eternal rest. David was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, and his three daughters. David leaves in God's care to celebrate his life and legacy his son — David Myers, Jr, two sisters, Lucille Cowan of Bossier City, Louisiana, Shirley Wiggins of Myrtle Beach, SC, four brothers Richard Myers, New York City, George Myers and Dan Jr (Mary Lou) of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Jimmy (Terri) Myers of Anchorage, Alaska, four aunts, Rosa Watson of Ladson, SC, Naomi Shine and Dorothy Bryant of New York City, NY, and Edna Pinnacle of Miami, Florida, his grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a very special friend, Ms. Susan Arrington.
