Deaon James O. Chestnut, Sr, (69) was born September 20, 1950 to the late Elbert and Lydia Chestnut in Poplar section of Horry County. He attended the Horry County Schools and worked for Harold Worley for over forty years; thirty of those years was at Ocean Drive Resort in North Myrtle Beach, SC. He departed this earthly life on Friday, January 24, 2020 at his residence.
Deacon James O. Chestnut, Sr. accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and continued to be a faithful servant until the end of his journey. He was a member of Chesterfield Missionary Baptist Church and served on several auxiliaries. His faithful servanthood included: Singing on the Male Choir, Missionary Ministry and Usher Ministry for many years before he was ordained as a Deacon on January 29, 1989. He was a Mason for approximately twenty years.
Deacon James O. Chestnut, Sr. was known for his sense of humor, compassion for others, and his willingness to always help. He was preceded in death by four brothers Charles, Melton, Levene, and Weldon Chestnut; his mother-in-law, Geneva Grissett.
Deacon James O Chestnut, Sr. leaves to cherish fond memories the love of his life, his wife of forty-seven years Leefola G. Chestnut; three children: Lenora (Darrell) Soles of Tabor City, NC, Tara (Antonio) Bell of Loris, SC and James Jr. (Tashena) Chestnut of Little River, SC; five grandchildren: Rashaad Chestnut of Longs, SC who was reared in the home, Quadisha and Jada Soles of Tabor City, NC, Elite Chestnut and Emphasis Cranford of Little River, SC; three great-grandchildren: Variah, Viviana and Jakobie; four brothers: Thelton (Sarah) Chestnut of Myrtle Beach, SC, Zelbert Chestnut of Longs, SC, Roy Chestnut of Myrtle Beach, SC and Ray Chestnut of Longs, SC; four sisters: Mable Smith of Longs, SC, Catherine Parker of Little River, SC, Laveane Hill of Thomasboro, NC and Joyce (John) Farrar of Jacksonville, NC; two brother-in-laws: James (Nina) Grissett of Longs, SC and Joseph (Sharon) Grissett of Long, SC; one siter-in-law, Emma Middleton of Conway, SC and a host of "adopted" sisters and brothers, nieces, nephews, other sorrowing relatives and friends. He will surely be missed by many.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, January 27, 2020 at Chesterfield Missionary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Ocean View Funeral Home, Myrtle Beach Chapel. Interment will follow in Chesterfield Cemetery.
