Doris Mildred McLaurin

Doris Mildred McLaurin of Conway passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023. 

Doris “Mildred” Gowans McLaurin was born in Conway, South Carolina on November 3, 1944, to the late Henry Gowans and the late Irene Stackhouse Gowans. She was affectionately known as “Mildred”, Sisterbaby” and “Sister” to most who knew her.

Her demise was on Sunday, July 23, 2023, of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry McLaurin; daughter, Glenda McLaurin; and brothers: LD Gowans and Henry Gowans.

She was educated in the Horry County Public Schools. At an early age, she joined the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. After marriage, she joined the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church where she served in various capacities. She served as a church and Sunday School Secretary for many years. She also served as President of the Missionary Society sang on the adult choir, and assisted with the Youth Choir and Young Women’s Auxiliary.

She worked many years as a housekeeper before entering the workforce. Mildred was employed by Diana Shop Clothing Store and Horry Telephone Cooperative. After retiring from HTC, she worked at Factory Dress Outlet.

In her spare time, she enjoyed reading her Bible, crocheting, doing seek and find puzzles, and fellowshipping with family and friends.

On January 23, 1965, she married Jerry McLaurin and to this union, three children were born. She leaves to cherish her precious memories her daughters, Rev. Dorothy Gowans (Rev. Woodrow) Jones, Loura McLaurin, and Tamara (John Sr.) Hannibal; sisters, Betty Davis and Joann Vereen; brothers, Aubrey Gowans and Lenwood (Sandra) Gowans; brother-in-law, Joseph (Pam) McLaurin; sister-in-law, Dana McLaurin; grandchildren, Amy Jones (Corey Campbell, Sr.), Tara Jones, Shekella McLaurin, John Hannibal, Jr. and Laurin Hannibal; great-grandchildren, Corey Campbell, Jr., Tierra Ford, Angel Jones, Donovan Gibbons and Kendric Campbell; two great great grandchildren, Imani Gibbons and Imari Gibbons; two aunts, Dollie Mae Faulk and Mary Stackhouse; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church.  Interment will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.  There will be a viewing from 4:00 PM to 6:00, Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Ocean View Funeral Home and Beach Crematory, Conway Chapel.
