Edith Sumpter was born on October 14, I939 in Conway, South Carolina to the late Paul Pino and the late Ethel B. Pino. On Saturday, January 4, 2025, God in His infinite wisdom whispered the name of Edith Sumpter and she slipped into eternal rest.
Edith attended the public schools of Horry County and graduated from Whittemore High School. She attended Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church and worked for AVX Corporation for 40 years. Edith loved to cook and maintain her yard. In her younger years, she loved playing basketball.
Edith was preceded in death by one son, James Edward Sumpter; seven siblings, Ned Pino, Robert Pino, Fred Pino, Veldma Moore, Ethel Mea Pino, Dorothy Pino, and Linda Sherman.
She will be forever remembered by her children, Edith S. Robinson, Scotty L. Sumpter, and Will E. Sumpter, along with their father, Willie James Sumpter; her remaining siblings, Lindell Sherman and Wendell Pino; 24 grandchildren, Paulett Hills, Kevin Hills, Tasha Hills, Jamar Sumpter, Tina Hills, Kalisha McLean, Alisha Richardson, John Richardson, Zier Sumpter, Lamarion Sumpter, Tyler Sumpter, Ava Sumpter, Jody Sumpter, Imani Sumpter, Tyrease Sumpter, Tyleah Sumpter, Niya Sumpter, LaQuantra Moses, Latonya Moses, Bryant Moses, Ryan Sumpter, Tocarro Sumpter, James Sumpter, Jr., and Serita Sumpter; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Bucksport Community Cemetery. There will be a viewing from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Ocean View Funeral Home and Beach Crematory, Conway Chapel.
