As part of his service he was awarded the Purple Heart and a few other military distinctions. After 2 years of active military duty he returned home and obtained his associates degree in automotive mechanics from Horry Georgetown Technical College. Edward worked in the automotive industry for 2 years and later began his career as a bag drop attendant at Myrtlewood Golf Course where he worked for 26 years until his health declined.

Edward was an active member of Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as the elevator operator. He mostly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching westerns and supporting his favorite football team the Philadelphia Eagles.
