Eula Mae Rutledge of the Burgess Community passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
Eula Mae Holmes Rutledge was born in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on April 25th, 1949, to the Late Daniel Holmes and Loreen Holmes. Following the early passing of her mother, she was lovingly raised by her grandmother, Dinah Holmes. Throughout her life, Eula's strength and intelligence shined brightly. She attended the public schools of Horry County and excelled at Whittemore High School in Conway, South Carolina. Eula was known for her sharp mind and quick wit, traits that endeared her to all who knew her.
Eula Mae Holmes Rutledge, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on June 18, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and compassion. Eula was deeply rooted in her faith and community from an early age, having joined Mt. Zion AME Church and its choir in Burgess, South Carolina.
Her commitment to family was unparalleled, as evidenced by her devoted marriage to the late James Rutledge Jr. on July 19, 1969, and their blessed union which brought forth three children: Sharon Rutledge, James A. Rutledge (Demetrius), and Glenn Rutledge (Kim). She adored her four grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Koaya Rutledge, Latisha Rutledge, Tyree Rutledge, Natavia Francis, and Jream Mason. She also adored her goddaughter Mynica Holmes. Eula Mae Holmes Rutledge will be dearly missed by her surviving family members, including her Aunt Betty J Holmes, sisters-in-law Isabell Knox, Lila Deas, Emma Smalls, Wanda Jackson, as well as brothers-in-law Johnny Rutledge, Rone Rutledge(Deloris), and Theron Rutledge(Janice). She had her cousin Peggy Hairston and many other cousins who grew up together as brothers and sisters who cherished her dearly.
Eula's dedication to her loved ones was evident in her support and fierce protectiveness. She cherished moments spent with her family, often treating her grandchildren to trips to Wendy's, a favorite tradition she held dear. Her love for television included watching the Wheel of Fortune, The Price is Right, Jeopardy, and Family Feud. It was those activities that brought her joy and relaxation.
Eula's impact on the lives she touched will forever be remembered. Her resilience, confidence, and loving spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know her. Eula touched the lives of many with her warmth, compassion, and unwavering strength. She will be fondly remembered for her dedication to her family and her community. Eula approached life with resilience and a gentle spirit that left a lasting effect on all who knew her.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Ocean View Funeral Home and Beach Crematory, Myrtle Beach Chapel. Interment will follow in Heavens Gate Cemetery, Murrells Inlet.
