A Life Remembered
On Sunday, October 12, 2025, Flossie Bell Frazier Faulk, affectionately known as “Babe” to her family and friends, peacefully received her heavenly crown and wings.
Early Life
Flossie was born on March 2, 1943, in Bucksport, South Carolina, to the late Flora Bell Marshall and Rubert Frazier. She was their first daughter and the third of six children. Before the arrival of her younger sister, Rodella, and brother, Bobby, she shared her early years with her protective brothers, Russell, Thayes (Pete), and Harold, from whom she learned strength, perseverance, and independence. Growing up in Bucksport instilled in Flossie a deep love for God, family, and community. She faithfully attended Salem AME Church, where she was active in Sunday school. Outside of church and school, she assisted her parents at home and enjoyed spending time with her siblings and cousins. Flossie graduated from Whittemore High School in 1960 and soon relocated to Newark, New Jersey, to begin a new chapter of her life. Although she preferred to abbreviate her middle name “Bell” to simply “B,” considering it “too southern,” she remained a southern woman at heart; resilient, resourceful, and full of grace.
Education and Career
Flossie began her professional journey in the textile and music manufacturing industries, reflecting her lifelong love of fashion and music. She later attended Essex County Community College, where she earned certifications in business management. After working as an office clerk, she discovered her true passion for food and nutrition. She enrolled at the New York School of Food and Hotel Management, graduating at the top of her class. She received numerous awards and certifications in nutrition and dietetics. With her new expertise, Flossie joined the Newark Boys Home for Troubled Teens, where she provided nutritious meals, taught classes in food science and nutrition, and led educational field trips to grocery stores and farmers markets to teach students how to plan balanced meals and read food labels. Later, she joined the staff of Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey, as Food Services Supervisor. She worked closely with dietitians to ensure that patients received nourishing meals that supported their healing and recovery. Her dedication earned her many awards, commendations, and heartfelt appreciation from both staff and patients. Flossie retired from Overlook Hospital in 2009 after a long and fulfilling career marked by service, excellence, and compassion.
Faith and Family
Flossie was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her grandsons, Jamal and Justin, were the joy of her life. She rarely missed an important milestone or family celebration and delighted in spending holidays and vacations with them in Virginia. In 2019, Flossie relocated to Leesburg, Virginia, to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law, and grandsons. At the Lansdowne Woods community, she quickly became well known and well loved for her style, grace, and warm personality. She actively participated in community events and enjoyed visiting local farmers markets and grocery stores; even if only to pick up a lemon or two. Her greatest joy, however, was sitting in her sunroom, watching the sunrise, and reflecting on God’s beauty. Those quiet mornings were sacred. There she prayed, read scripture, sang gospel songs, and communed with God. Her Bibles and notebooks remain filled with highlighted verses and handwritten reflections.
