Frances Johnson Sherman, daughter of the late Joe and Earleen Johnson, was born in the Bucksport section of Horry County on March 26, 1946. Frank, as she was affectionately called by family and close friends, departed this earthly life at 1:30 AM on Thursday, May 07, 2021 at Prince George Nursing Facility. She attended school for a short time in the Horry County Schools district. Frances gave her life to Christ at a very young age. She became a member of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church where she joined the Senior Choir.
Frances was the youngest sister of seven siblings, a role that would come with the early responsibility as a caregiver. She was a confident role model and friend to her loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and anyone who she could share her love and home with. Frances loved to cook and was always preparing a hot meal to feed everyone. Her home was always open to family members in need of a place to stay. Frances was a hardworking and dedicated employee of the AVX Corporation until she retired in 2005.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Sherman; her youngest son, Johnathan Sherman; parents, Joe and Earleen Johnson; her bonus daughter, Berlene Norman; her brother, Roosevelt Johnson; three sisters, Ellen Mosley, Geraldine Johnson, and Rosa Lee; five brother- in-laws, Henry Mosley, Willie Sindab, Frank Sherman, Henry B. Sherman, and Robert White; and four sisters-in-law, Lizzie Mae Sherman, Leona Sherman, Gladys Gause, and Augrie Johnson.
Frances leaves to cherish loving memories two sons Freddie Jerome Johnson and Jeffery (Evelyn) Sherman of Conway, SC; six bonus sons, La Rhue (Rose) Sherman of Atlantic Beach, SC, Levern (Lois) Sherman and Larry Sherman of Charlotte, NC, LeFogram (Dorothy) Sherman and Lloyd (Lindell) Sherman of Bucksport, SC, and Lewellyn (Patricia) Sherman of Fayetteville, NC; a granddaughter she raised as a daughter, Carolyn Norman; five grandchildren, Shantella (Adam) Stemaley, Jeffery Sherman Jr., Alicia Sherman, Johnathan Sherman Jr., and Evonne Sherman; three sisters, Virginia Williams and Elizabeth Sindab of Bucksport, SC, and Pearlie White of Miami, FL; twenty-four bonus grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She will be dearly missed and her legacy will live on.
Frances Johnson Sherman of the Bucksport community passed on May 7, 2021. There will be a graveside service held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2021, at Owens Cemetery. A viewing will be held Thursday, May 13, 2021, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ocean View Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Conway Chapel. Ocean View Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the Sherman Family.
