Fred Douglas Stanley affectionately known as Doug was born in Conway, SC on September 22, 1946 to the late Henry B. Stanley, Sr. and Bessie Bellamy Stanley. He graduated from Whittemore High School in 1964. He went on to further his education by attending and graduating from Denmark Technical College with an Associate’s degree in air conditioning repair.  Upon graduation, he moved to New Jersey in 1967.

In 1969, he married Cora Lee James and moved to the Bronx, New York. Fred shared great and unforgettable times with friends and family as the Stanley’s frequently hosted gatherings of partying, eating, playing Bid Whist and dancing nights away to the sounds of great music.

In 1978, God blessed Fred and Cora with a son and the joy of their life, Frederic Duville Stanley, their only child. Fred was extremely excited to be a father and displayed everlasting love every day to Frederic until he passed. Fred was ecstatic when Frederic married his wife Nicole and overjoyed when his grandson Ethann was born in 2018. He was so thrilled to become a Grandpa. Fred served as a father figure and mentor to many including nieces, nephews and disadvantaged youth that he mentored.

In his travels home he made sure to visit lots of family and friends. Fred also enjoyed traveling internationally which included traveling to various Caribbean Islands, Spain and Mexico.

Fred worked as a Commercial Insurance Agent at Marsh & McLennan formally Johnson & Higgins for over 40 years before retiring in 2007. Fred also worked on weekends for almost 20 years as a Counsellor at Abbott House. Abbott House helps disadvantaged youth which is why Fred highly valued his job.

Fred was extremely proud to be an active member of the Prince Hall Lodge #138 Masonic fraternity for over 40 years. Fred served many roles including a leadership role in being the Worshipful Master of his Lodge. Fred travelled frequently for many Masonic events. Fred was joined in a passion for the brotherhood by his father, Henry Sr., and his brother Henry Jr.

Fred loved coming home and visiting Greater St. James AME Church where he was grounded spiritually in knowing the Heavenly Father. Fred was defined by the Godly spirit he consistently showed throughout his life. Fred was a blessing to so many and will truly be missed.
