Genevive Friend

Genevive Vernell Friend was born on December 2, I945 in Conway, South Carolina to the late Pearly Davis and Quincy Walker Davis. She departed this life on Friday, June 7, 2024, at MUSC Health Marion Medical Center in Mullins, South Carolina.

Genevive grew up in the Cochran community of Conway, South Carolina. She graduated from Whittemore High School and later moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut. She also attended a trade school in Connecticut for electrical engineering. For many years, Genevive was employed at Norton United Aircraft. In addition, she was employed at American Frozen Foods for several years.

She loved knitting, fishing, and traveling, even if she had no specific place to go. She was united in marriage to the late Willie Friend, and to this union, five children were born. Genevive was the pillar of her family who prioritized their well-being for them.

Genevive was preceded in death by her three sons, William Friend, Terence Friend and Willie Davis; a daughter, Jennifer Denise Friend; her only sister, Dora Mae Davis-McCants; and four brothers, Elijah Davis, James Davis, Thomas Lee Davis and George Robert Davis.

Those left to cherish fond memories are her loving daughter, Vigilla Agim of Gresham, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Charles Agim of Gresham, South Carolina, Shamika Agim of Tallahassee, Florida, Terence Friend, Jr. and Taliah Friend, both of Bridgeport, Connecticut; three great-grandchildren, Amiya and Ayonna Friend, both of Miami, Florida and Trinity Agim of Tallahassee, Florida; a brother-in-law, Jerry McCants of Conway, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Betty Davis of Conway, South Carolina; godchild and favorite niece, Geneva McCants of Conway, South Carolina; step-daughter, Christine Hills and step-son, Willie Herriott, both of Conway, South Carolina; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Greater St. James AME Church.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  There will be a viewing from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Ocean View Funeral Home and Beach Crematory, Conway Chapel.
