Gregory Leon Johnson II was born on March 9, 2005. His birth was a blessing to his father, Gregory Johnson, his first and only son, and his mother, Gwendolyn Johnson, who still grieved the loss of a son years ago. This symbolized hope, a new beginning, and a precious gift from above. Ask just about any member of Gregory’s family and you will hear stories of a mischievous little boy, yet, loving, caring of others and always looking for a way to put a smile on your face.
Gregory accepted Christ as his savior at the age of 11 on February 19, 2017, at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Gregory attended High School and graduated in 2022. Unsure of what exactly he wanted to do, Gregory always seemed to come back to his experiences growing up around his daddy, working, tinkering on trucks and lawnmowers, picking up skills that he turned into a business with his dad, Greg’s Hauling.
Gregory’s entrepreneurial spirit convinced his dad to help him develop a landscaping business so that he could supplement his income. Gregory talked about doing other projects around the house like rebuilding Grandma’s old barn, renovating the shed, and adding to his house.
As a child, Gregory never sat still and he made sure that you were always on your toes as well. Somehow Gregory would persuade his father to get up after a long day of work to play basketball, ride motorcycles, or start projects in the backyard. Gregory did not ever leave his sisters out of his extra activities! He would always be outside teaching them how to catch ladybugs, make mud pies, and climb trees!
Gregory had a great love and affection for dogs after his mother brought home his first-ever dog, named CoCo. Many days were spent outside with just Gregory and his dogs during the summer until Dad came home and it was hoop time.
Gregory had quite the taste for seafood boils and chicken feet, and he specifically loved his Aunt Donna’s chicken salad and pasta salad. And of course, like most kids these days, he liked playing video games, and like most video gamers, he had dreams of becoming a famous streamer. Gregory’s passion returned to being outdoors, with his dad tinkering with cars, building things, and shooting hoops.
In his short 20 years, Gregory made and left lasting memories on countless lives. He will be missed sorely by his beloved mother, Gwendolyn Johnson, and father, Gregory Johnson; sisters, Emily Johnson and Effie Johnson. He also leaves behind more brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. His wonderful spirit has gone on to meet Grandma Bernice; he was the apple of her eye; other grandparents and family that have passed such as Betty, Marty, George, and Jamar.
We love you Gregory and you will always be the Love of Our Lives.
