Gwendolyn Simmons Jones

Gwendolyn Simmons Jones was born on September 19, 1949, in Conway, SC to the late Ella Elizabeth Simmons. She was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 2, 2025. 

Gwen attended Carver Elementary School, later graduating from Whittimore High School in Conway, SC. After graduation, she attended Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC. One year later, she decided to move to New York. She then enrolled in an IBM program, which allowed her to gain enough knowledge to become employed by IBM for several years. After leaving New York, she relocated to South Carolina, living in Myrtle Beach, and became employed at General Telephone Company and H. R. Smith Accounting Firm. Later, she became the supervisor of housekeeping at a local hotel in Myrtle Beach. Gwen was also a volunteer at Grand Strand Medical Center, where she met the love of her life, Mr. Robert “Dana” Jones of Pittsburg, PA. They were married in 2015 and enjoyed their union until his passing in December 2023 after a short illness. 

She was a faithful member of Shields Chapel FBH Church, where she served on many boards. One position she really loved was teaching Sunday school for the adult class. She loved the Lord and served Him until the end. She loved Him with her heart, mind, body, and soul. 

Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jones; her mother, Ella Simmons; and her adoptive parents, George and Emma Simmons. 

Those left to cherish fond memories are her daughter, Audrey (Michael) Bland; her sister, Bonnie C. Simmons; a grandson, Jadlyn Bland; her special sister, Nina Gore; many cousins; a host of other relatives, friends, and her loving church family.
