Harold Blye Sr. was born to the late Christine B. Hines, on September 7, 1947, in Georgetown, South Carolina. He went into the United States Army in 1968. Later in that year, He became a part of Company B, 3rd Battalion, 60th Infantry. He was then sent to Vietnam. While in Vietnam, Harold Blye, Sr. led and fought alongside his fellow soldiers in counter insurgency operations.
For his valor, Harold Blye, Sr. received the following medals and awards: 2 Silver Star Medals, 2 Bronze Star Medals, 5 Air Medals, The Army Commendation Medal for Heroism in Action, The Purple Heart, The Key to the City of Seattle, Washington, as well as a letter from the then Governor Robert E. McNair of South Carolina.
Harold Blye Sr. was a member of St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and audio technician. He was also a Sergeant of Arms in the Good Time Social Club. Harold lived by and taught his family the following phrase, “Stop, Look, Listen, Execute and Above All Never Panic.”
Harold Blye Sr. is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Grissett-Blye of 53 years, and three grown children who have followed his example of leadership: his eldest daughter,
Doctor Patrinia M. Blye-Bryant (Leonard), Army First Sergeant (Retired) Christa C. Blye-Baker (Patrick), and Marine 2nd Lieutenant Harold Blye Jr. (Kim). He leaves behind grandchildren: Aaron Simmons (Renee), J’Ana Carter (Devin), Faith King (Daniel), Joy Melvin (Nyrell), and Ta’Sean Baker, Keyanna Blye, and Harold Blye III. Great-grandchildren: Haven McMiller, Aaniya Simmons, A’Vae Simmons, A’Bree Simmons, JoAnne Melvin, and Nora Melvin. He also leaves behind the following siblings: Robert Lance (Brenda), Sara Lee Maybank, Wayne Cox (Renee) and Ronnie Smalls, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Harold Blye of Myrtle Beach passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 12, 2021, at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, Myrtle Beach. Viewing will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 Saturday September 11, 2021 at Ocean View Funeral Home, Myrtle Beach Chapel. There will be an inurnment at 1:00 PM Tuesday September 14, 2021 at Florence National Cemetery in Florence, SC. Ocean View Funeral Home and Beach Crematory, Myrtle Beach Chapel.
