With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lieutenant Hubert Keith Jr. on March 12, 2025, at the age of 85. Lieutenant Keith was born on November 5, 1939, in Robeson County, Roland, North Carolina, to Johnny and Louise (McQueen) Keith. Hubert moved to South Carolina as a child with his parents and was the eldest of six children, serving as a role model to his siblings.
In 1965, Hubert began his distinguished career with the Myrtle Beach Police Department. His perseverance, dedication, professionalism, genuine love for his community, and commitment to continuing education, supported and encouraged by many law enforcement personnel, allowed him to rise to the rank of Lieutenant.
After 40 years of dedicated service to law enforcement, the City of Myrtle Beach, and his community, Lieutenant Keith retired in 2005, leaving behind a lasting legacy. Hubert continued to be a pillar in his community, a role model, and mentor to many. He was a longtime member of Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach, SC, where he served on the Usher Board. He was also an honorable member of the Masonic Lodge, Consistory, Holy Royal Arch, and held the title of Past Master Mason. A dedicated Shriner, his involvement in these organizations brought him great joy and allowed him to make a significant impact on his community.
A loving father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, uncle, and devoted friend, Hubert is survived by his wife, Laura Frances Keith; his children, Brenda T. Keith, Janice F. Keith, Johnathan Keith (Hailita), and Tara Hickman Burgess (Timothy), Towanna L. White; grandchildren, Brandon Hickman, Jasmine Keith, Tiras Timothy Burgess, Lauren Burgess, and Chrishawn C. Hemingway; his sisters, Inez Goings, Carolyn Louise, and Glenda Faye Keith; and his brother, Clifton Keith. He also leaves behind a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Beatrice Keith.
Hubert leaves behind a legacy of love, honor, integrity, dedication, and hard work. A peacemaker at heart, he touched countless lives with his love, compassion, and desire to help others. He possessed the exceptional ability to connect with people from all walks of life, never meeting a stranger. Hubert Keith Jr. will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the Myrtle Beach community he faithfully served.
