James Finkley, affectionately known as "Duke," or "Dukey Dog" was born July 16, 1951 to Harold Finkley, Sr and Margaret Dennison. Both his parents, one son, Eric Best and one grandson, Travon pre-deceased him. "Duke" attended Whittemore High School, Conway, SC where he was known for his wit and "larger than life" smile.
James was married to Ronnie Finkley of New Jersey. His career in the hospitality and tourism industry spanned over forty years from South Carolina to Washington, DC. As a young man, "Duke" moved from Myrtle Beach to Washington, DC where he was employed as a bellman for Marriott International. His pleasant, friendly personality, sense of humor and kind spirit made way for him to become one of the best and most requested within the franchise. Several years later, upon his return to Myrtle Beach, "Duke" would later serve in the hospitality industry through employment with Pine Lakes and Dunes Golf Clubs and the MB Convention Center. His hobbies included playing golf, entertaining and enjoying family and friends. His fun-loving spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
To hold fond memories forever in their hearts, James leaves: his wife Ronnie; sons: Chadwick Finkley, Andre Finkley (Donella); Ronald Finkley; Donte' Tolbert; Lawrence Spivey and one daughter, Haley Gore. His siblings include: Harold Finkley (Patricia); Albert Dennison (Shirley), Alfred Dennison; James Chestnut (Sarah); Michael Vereen (Wanda); Melvin Nesbitt (Loretta); Michael Nesbitt; Romel Finkley; Pearl Dennison; Loretta Mansfield (David); Brenda Sinclair; Sybil Anderson (LaVern, Jr.) and Harriett Mines. Four aunts:, Mildred Stover; Marie Feaster; Havannah Brown and Penolia Johnson; one uncle Booker T. Dennison, Jr. (Essie); one great-aunt, Wilhelmenia "Bay" Maybank7—fifteen grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, loving friends, relatives, and his best friends, Robert Jackson, James Hemingway and cousins Luke Green and William Finkley Jr.
James "Duke" Finkley passed on yesterday December 26, 2020. Graveside Services will be held at 12:00 noon, Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Pine Island Community Cemetery. Ocean View Funeral Home, Myrtle Beach Chapel is assisting the Findley Family.
