James “Clee” Hemingway of Myrtle Beach passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.
James Ore Hemingway was born in the Wampee Community of Horry County on April 4, 1943, to the late Rosetta Hemingway and Lamar Bryant. He was a member of the Household of Faith Pentecostal Church under Pastor Maude Ridges in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was a brick mason with Waccamaw Brick for many years before retiring and later starting his own business; Hemingway Tune-Ups.
James or "Clee" as he was so affectionately called, had a passion for working on cars and watching sports. He supported our local schools for many years by attending their football games until his health declined.
He was a very compassionate man and his home was always open to those in need. James was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 25 years: Mary "Candy" Hemingway, one sister: Caroline Wheeler, two sons, Carl L. Thompson, and Jeffery A. Myers, and a granddaughter: Quinisha Hemingway.
He leaves to cherish his memories his caring and devoted children: Rosetta Moore, Alicia Myers, Sheketa (Daniel) Marquez, Barbara (Winston) Jordan, James "Spanky" Campbell, and Elouise Alston, all of Myrtle Beach, a daughter-in-law: Janet R. Myers of Tampa Florida, six siblings: Helen (Carver) Wright, Brenda Bankhead, Edna Bryant, Julia Smith, Lamar Jr., and Jimmy Bryant, 27 grandchildren, an abundance of great-grandchildren, a special aunt: Carrie Hemingway, a special cousin: Elizabeth Bowens, a special nephew: Patric Wheeler, a special grandson: Calvin Thompson, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends/pests.
