Obituary

Janice Elizabeth Carter (nee Peterson), 82 of Delair, NJ went home to be with the Lord on January 12th, 2023. Janice was born on December 25th, 1940 in Camden, New Jersey to the late James Henry Peterson, Sr. and Mary Adele Peterson. She was a long-time resident of Pennsauken, New Jersey, specifically Delair.

Janice attended Palmyra High School. She met Rodolpha Carter, Sr. during her high school years, whom she later married, and from their union came six children. Janice was preceded in death by her parents, James Henry Peterson, Sr. and Mary Adele Peterson, her siblings, Adele Wilson, Olga Bundy, Robert Peterson, Sr., James Peterson, Jr. and her daughter, Mary Kelly.

Janice worked at Meadowbrook Cleaners for many years pressing drapes. She later worked for Graphic Controls in Cherry Hill where she retired at age 60.

Janice was strong willed, loving, caring, and the best mother and grandmother any child could ask for. She was the pillar of our family, always willing to help even if help wasn’t needed. If she looked in your refrigerator and she “thought” there wasn’t enough food, she would come back with grocery bags. She loved playing cards with her Delair buddies at Pops’ house and she also loved pulling those slot handles. She enjoyed traveling. She was an undercover attorney who loved politics, she could watch CNN and NSNBC News all day and night and then discuss the current events with you. Her strength, unfailing dedication to her family, spirited personality and sense of humor were her greatest gifts.

Left to cherish Janice’s memories are her children Olga Goffney (Elmer), Valerie Carter (Orlando aka Boo), Rodolpha Carter, Jr. aka Brother, Selena McGregor (Mark), Shirley Matthews (Matt), Frank Bundy (Theresa), and Gregory High. Her nephew Gary Samuels (Rose), sister Ivanette Peterson. In-laws, Rosevelt Carter (Lavern), Kate Askew, Willie Henry Carter (Sharon). and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and two sister friends, Ruth Kendall and Mable (Pops) Johnson.
