Jeffero Riley Small, affectionately known as Jeff, was born on November 17, 1954, in the Plantersville community of Georgetown, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Margree Morant Small and the late Herbert Small, Sr. On Monday, July 21, 2025, Jeff transitioned into eternal life. His parents, and siblings Herbert Small Jr. and Brenda Grice, preceded him in death.
Jeff attended the public schools of Georgetown County, South Carolina, and graduated from Choppee High School in 1973.
Jeff was united in holy matrimony to Cynthia Gardenia Canty on May 31, 1994. This union was blessed with one daughter, China White, and grand-pup, Benji.
Jeff moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, shortly after graduating from high school. He was employed with St John’s Inn and Court Capri for years as a cook. Jeff was an avid fisherman. He dedicated significant hours on Pier 14, sharing his catch with family members and friends until his health declined in October 2024. So many of us will miss receiving bags of fresh spots, whiting, flounder, and trout. He had an outgoing personality with an infectious smile and loved his family dearly. He showed his love by bringing everyone together for a cookout or fish fry. Jeff was immensely proud of his small garden, which produced tomatoes, collard greens, bell peppers, and jalapeño peppers. He loved watching all types of sports and was a loyal Washington Commanders fan, and later became a South Carolina Gamecocks fan thanks to his stepdaughter.
Jeff leaves to cherish his memories, wife, Cynthia; daughter, China White; stepchildren, Rita White and Jay White; siblings, Georgia Watts (Gerald), Kirby Small (Barbara), Herman Small (Sybena), Al Grice (Raquel), Bernard Grice, Levon Grice, Linda Grice, Cora Grice, Dorethia Grice and Winnie Grice; aunt, Lourise Morant; grandchildren, Naaja Young, Deija Young, Najada White, Daria Williams, Javier White and Saori White; sisters-in-law: Martha Gore (Thad) and Mary “Cookie” Canty-Goings (Eric); brother-in-law, James “Beaver” Canty; special friends, Michael Myers, Elouise Bryant, Pat Spivey, and Wilbur McCrae; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
