Jerlynn Delois Wilson was born on August 29, 1942, in Winter Garden, Florida, and raised by her parents, Nina M. Clay and Willie Burke. Jeri, as she was familiarly known, was a woman of incredible warmth, wit, intelligence, love, and dedication.
A regular attendee and beloved member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Jeri’s faith and commitment inspired everyone. Her philanthropic spirit found a platform in her volunteer work at the National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina. Always ready to lend a hand, Jeri brought light and hope to many lives through her service. Her love for gospel music was felt by all through her voice, which was always a gift to hear.
Remembered for her loving personality, quick wit, intelligence, and hard work, she lived a life full of purpose and meaning. Firm in her belief that education is crucial, she encouraged the same in everyone she met. Her mantra, “Always present yourself how you want others to perceive you. Your smile is your greatest gift” will continue to inspire all.
Jeri’s light dimmed prematurely with the loss of her husband, LeVern Wilson; and her son, Alvis E. Green, Sr. The absence of these two pillars in her life never deterred her spirit or strength. One son-in-law, Andy Johnson, also preceded her in death.
Jeri is survived by her loving family. Her children who were her everything, carrying forward her values and love for family, Valerie Bouler Johnson, Carmella Green (John) Jones, Donald (Candace) Green, Tonya McClendon, and Sabrena Wilson; her sister, Teryll (Rodney) Nicholes; her niece, Ebonee Nicholes; her grandchildren who affectionately knew her as “Nana”, Kristen (Hakim), Marcus, Alvis, Jr., Jarell. Renee, Jameson, William, Tionna, and Jordan; five great-grandchildren, Aidyn, Tyler, Makayla, Loyalty, and Melodie; her daughter-in-law, Deborah Green; and a host of cousins, other family members, and friends who will all miss her greatly.
Jeri leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, and family. Her memory will be cherished not only in the grandeur of her deeds but also in the countless small gestures of love and kindness that touched the lives of those around her. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy lives on in every heart she touched.
