Joann Grissett Obituary

JoAnn Grissett was born on June 18, 1965 to Phyllis Grissett and the late Alfred Williams. She entered into eternal rest on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at the tender age of 60. JoAnn was a loving mother, a proud Nana, and the warm heart of her family. Anyone who knew JoAnn felt her gentle, sweet, and comforting spirit—just like her cooking. She carried a “mama mode” energy everywhere she went, always making sure the people around her felt cared for, fed, and wrapped in love.

JoAnn enjoyed the simple joys that brought her a smile: cooking big meals, doing crossword puzzles, playing Panda Pop and Solitaire on her phone (everyone knew she loved that phone!), laughing with her cousins and close friends, and styling her hair. She was known as the neighborhood braider, always ready to make someone feel confident and beautiful. She was also a dedicated member of Sisters United Social Club, where she found sisterhood, support, and genuine friendship.

Nothing brought her more happiness than being with her grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Nana,” and supporting her children. Being a mother and grandmother were her greatest accomplishments, and she gave her all to her family. Her love for them was the center of her world and the foundation of everything she did. JoAnn was shaped by the deep love of her grandmother, Amanda Grissett, and her grandfather, Dozier, who played a major role in her upbringing. Their influence stayed with her throughout her life and carried into the way she raised her children and grandchildren. She loved them dearly and kept their memory close to her heart.

She leaves behind her loving mother, Phyllis Grissett; her brothers, Troy McCallum and Levon McCallum, Randy Haynes, and Tony (Yvette) Haynes of Conway, South Carolina; and her sisters, Archi (Jamie) Hall McCallum and Denise (Patricia) Williams of Rochester, New York; her daughter, Shavonne Herriott (Mark); her five sons, Reginald Allston, Jr. (known as “Demar”), Antwon Allston (Tashi), Aaron Allston (Angela) , Chadwick Allston, and Jamal Allston; her grandchildren, KaBria Hasty, Keyana Finkley, Aadyn Allston, Aanyla Allston, Allayna Allston, Amauri Allston, Ari Allston, and Aris Allston; and her great-grandchild, Juelz Faulk. She also remains lovingly connected to the father of her children, Reginald Allston, who was always a supportive presence in her life.

JoAnn’s life was full of love, laughter, and care. Her home was a place of comfort, her arms were a place of peace, and her presence was a blessing to everyone who knew her. As we celebrate her homegoing, we honor the joy she spread, the family she built, and the love she gave so freely. Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and all who were touched by her kindness.

May her soul rest in eternal peace, wrapped in the same love she always gave to others.
