John Sheldon Brown, Sr.

Alpha: December 31, 1955 ~ Omega: January 22, 2023

On Sunday, January 22, 2023, John Sheldon Brown Sr., transitioned from his earthly tabernacle to be with the Lord for when we are absent from the body we are present with the Lord. John Sheldon Brown Sr. was born to the late Carolyn Graham Brown and Herbert Brown on December 31, 1955.

John was educated in the Horry County Public schools and was a 1974 graduate of Conway High School. While there he was a member of the track and field team and the basketball team.

After high school, John worked at Nye’s Pharmacy for 8 years. He joined the staff at Conway Medical Center and was a dedicated member of the environmental services department for 38 years. He enjoyed his job and thoroughly loved the people that he worked with. In his spare time coaching sports and working with children became one of his greatest passions. He was known throughout the community for his infectious smile and pleasing disposition.

John accepted Christ and was united with Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Later he joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where he participated in the Brotherhood organization and usher board.

In 1980 John married his high school sweetheart Cynthia McCray Brown. To this union were born 3 children, Sheldon, Courtney, and Matthew.

Preceding him in death were his mother and father, one sister Lily Bell Graves and two brothers, Thomas Brown and Earl Brown.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Cynthia; 2 sons John Sheldon and Matthew J. Brown; one daughter; Courtney L. Brown (Alysa), His siblings Herbert Brown, Glenn Pee, Jesse Brown, and Mary Baker. A mother-in-law Aridean McCray. Four sisters-in-law, Melinda (Allen)Brooks, Gwenette McCray, Banetta (Roy) Cole, and Christi (Kevin) Eagles. Three brothers-in-law, Joseph (Vicki) McCray, Bobby (Melissa) McCray, and Clifford (Cheryl) McCray, four grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

John Brown of Conway passed on January 22, 2023. There will be a viewing from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, January 27, 2023, at Ocean View Funeral Home and Beach Crematory, Conway Chapel.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.  Ocean View Funeral Home and Beach Crematory, Conway Chapel is assisting the Brown Family.
