John Lutz Obituary

On July 17, 2025, John Edward Lutz passed away due to complications related to Alzheimer's, a few weeks prior to his 79th birthday. He resided in Little River/Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Born on August 5, 1946, in Bronx, New York, and growing up in Westfield, New Jersey, John came to Maryland as a student at Mount St Mary's College in Emmitsburg, graduating with a B.A. degree in accounting (1968) and passing the CPA exam.

John started his finance career with the CPA firm of Price Waterhouse. He next worked for Eastern Stainless Steel (1971-1985), where he eventually became comptroller of the company. After leaving Eastern Stainless, he worked as a financial analyst for General Instrument, comptroller for Penta Systems, and business manager for WFG Communications. In 1989, he accepted a position as Director of the Baltimore County Office of Central Services.

After two and a half years with the County, John resigned to become a partner and the position of Vice President of Finance and Human Resources with the newly formed Maryland Metals Processing until retiring in 2012.

Since his college years, John lived a number of places around metro Baltimore but especially loved his home on the North Point Peninsula of Baltimore County. Boating, fishing, crabbing, water sports, and cookouts were just a few favorites of the Bay lifestyle. He was an avid fan of anything Ravens and college sports. A lover of scuba diving, John enjoyed many trips to Jamaica and the Caribbean, traveling across the Pond and the U.S.

John is survived by his wife of 43 years, Debbie, son David and his wife Laura and their three daughters, Autumn, Amanda, and Alaina, stepdaughter Melissa and her husband Chuck and daughters Mayson and Caden, her husband Benaiah, and great granddaughter Fiadh. He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin.

A kind and gentle man, John will be missed by many family members and friends that he cherished so much. Sorrow does not last forever, but memories do.

John was cremated, and his ashes will be put in the Bay that he loved.
