John Edward Pickett was born on July 26, 1944, in Murrells Inlet, SC., to the late Capers Edward Pickett and Sarah Elizabeth Pickett (both have preceded him in death). He was the eldest of seven children. After a brief illness, on September 20, 2020, Johnnie as he was called, peacefully transitioned from this earthly life and entered into eternal rest. Johnnie attended the South Carolina Public school system. He learned the mastery of carpentry. He relocated to New York during his early adult years where he worked and matriculated through several phases of jobs that caused him to excel in many areas of his life. While living in New York, he joined the Mount Calvary FBH church in Brooklyn, NY. After living in New York for several years, Johnnie then relocated back to Myrtle Beach. He was a member of Heaven Gate United Methodist Church. He met and married Shirley Brown in December 24, 2006; from this union, he inherited daughters and sons; and they remained faithful and united until his death.
Johnnie was "loved" by many, and had an enormous amount of friends. As the scripture declares in Proverbs 18:24, "A man that hath friends must show himself friendly"...more loved by his family than anyone.
Johnnie leaves to his memories, his wife Shirley Pickett, one biological son, Norman George Pino, Aynor, SC; one brother, Joseph Pickett, of Myrtle Beach, SC; five sisters; Margaret Pickett-Councill, of Myrtle Beach, Elnetha Martin (David) of Columbia, SC, Rosa Moore of Columbia, SC; Betty Lawrence, Bear, DE; and Angie Pickett; Snellville, GA; six step-daughters; Almena Smith, Brenda Smith of Athens, GA; Pastor Iris Woods, of Columbia, SC; Mary Smith, Shirley Waters, Felicia Edwards, both of Pawley's Island, SC; two step-sons; Lamont Smith, and Christopher Smith, both of Pawley's Island, SC.
Johnnie also leaves to cherish his memories, 4 biological grandchildren, 6 biological great grandchildren, three nieces, three nephews, and a host of inherited grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and cousins.
John Pickett of Murrells Inlet passed on September 20, 2020. There will be a private graveside service held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2020, at Heavens Gate Cemetery in Murrells Inlet, SC. Ocean View Funeral Home Myrtle Beach Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
