“I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (II Timothy 4:7)…On Saturday, November 27, 2021, Kelvin Wright gained his wings at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Florence, SC.
On January 16, 1975, Kelvin was born to Willie Wright Jr. and the late Janie Bell Wright. He graduated in 1993 from Johnsonville High School. During his high school career, he served as the drum caption for the J.H.S. Marching Band, and he played basketball. He later received his Associate Degree in Science with a Major in Business from Everest University in Orlando, Florida. He was employed with Tupperware Manufactory for many years until his health declined. Later, he worked with Sterling Security Enterprise, Allied Universal, and McLeod Regional Medical Center as a security guard.
To know Kelvin is to love him. No matter what health battles he faced, he never complained and always smiled. He truly loved helping others with a smile on his face. He was a loving and dedicated person who enjoyed his family and friends immensely. To know Kelvin, he never met a stranger, and he would spark conversations with anyone who crossed his path.
Kelvin accepted Christ into his life at an early age and joined Mt. Mariah Freewill Baptist Church. Later he attended Grace Temple Church of Florence and became a faithful member of Bethlehem A.M.E. Church, in Hemingway, SC, where he served as the drummer until his health declined. He was a member of several gospel groups, including The Johnsonville All-Stars, The Heavenly Wonders, and The Harmonics.
He was joined in holy matrimony to Genisha Wright on August 22, 2009. They were indeed each other’s best friends. You never saw one without the other. He was preceded in death by his mother, two sisters Cecelia Ann Pressley and Janet Wright Lewis, and nephew Frankie Pressley Jr.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories, his loving and devoted wife of twelve years, Genisha Wright; his father, Willie Wright, Jr. of Hemingway, SC, his two daughters, Sabrina (Timothy) Bess of Florence, SC, Ka’rah Wright of Gresham, SC; two sisters, Angela (Frankie) Pressley of Gresham, SC, Bernice (Cornelius) Faulk, Conway, SC; two brothers, Willie C. Wright of Johnsonville, SC, Calvin (Tamara) Wright of Lake City, SC; his mother-in-law and father-in-law Sidney and Lessie Gibson of Morrisville, SC; two sisters-in-law, Tiffany Gibson, and Julia Gibson both of Andrews, SC; a special niece that was like his daughter, Freddricka Pressley of Florence, SC, a niece that was like his sister Shaquana Lewis of Hemingway, SC, four nieces, eight nephews, three great-nieces, four great-nephews; four aunts, Edna Flegler, Eva Mae Wright, Carrie Wright, all of Johnsonville, SC, and Mattie Pringle of Lake City, SC; one uncle, Kevin Pringle of Georgetown, SC, and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends; a special friend that he took as a brother, Harry Williams, two best friends Brian Rogers and Sammy Gordon; Special thanks to the Fresenius Kidney Care on South Cashua in Florence, SC, and the MUSC Kidney Transplant Team in Charleston, SC.
