Kenneth Burrell Obituary

Kenneth Ronald Burrell was born on March 22, 1957, in Sumter, South Carolina. He was the third child born to Thomas and Rosa Durrant-Burrell. Kenneth shared an exceptionally close bond with his brother, Thomas. His older sister, Patricia, lovingly watched over them both. Their grandmother, Theresa Hamlin, raised them with pride, dignity, and an abundance of love.

From a young age, Kenneth demonstrated a remarkable commitment to service and learning. At just 12 years old, he taught Vacation Bible School. He was also a Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and excelled to the highest levels within the organization. Kenneth's father, Thomas "Sporty" Burrell, a 10th-degree black belt in Judo and Karate, taught the boys martial arts, fostering discipline and strength.

After graduating from Eastern Wayne High School in 1975 at the age of 16 (he turned 17 three months before graduation), Kenneth enlisted in the United States Army. He quickly distinguished himself, being appointed squad leader and leading his entire battalion at graduation. He went to jump school at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he earned his wings. His last duty station was with the 319th Field Artillery Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

During his last jump, Kenneth was severely injured when his parachute had a large hole. His reserve chute failed, and he plummeted quickly, landing in a tree over 60 feet high. After dangling for a long time, he bravely cut himself loose and dropped to the ground. He often spoke of this miraculous survival as a testament to God's presence, an event that profoundly changed his life.

Following his military service, Kenneth moved to Philadelphia to be closer to his mother. It was there he found the love of his life, Uvette. Kenneth became the CEO of one of the fastest-growing businesses in the Northeastern Corridor, a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit that earned him a place in the prestigious book, "Who's Who."

Beyond his professional achievements, Kenneth was deeply committed to giving back to his community. He volunteered his time facilitating a men's group in Phoenix II, where he helped many individuals get back into the workforce. Kenneth and his wife sponsored three children in Haiti and provided valuable internships to students from Upper Moreland High School. He loved teaching and dedicated himself to showing people how to structure their businesses and become entrepreneurs. He often shared his wisdom, notably inscribing his favorite quote on the chalkboard at work: "Excuses Are Tools That's Used to A Road That Leads No Where."

Kenneth proudly watched the growth and achievements of his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He truly considered himself a father figure to them all.

On June 27, 2025, Kenneth transitioned peacefully while in his wife's arms. A truly devoted husband and loving father, his presence, wisdom, and boundless love are still profoundly felt by all who knew him. He leaves a rich legacy of love to his devoted wife, Uvette D. Little-Burrell. He will be profoundly missed by his children and stepchildren: Kenika, Kennetha, Jeannette, Khia, and Jerrel. He also leaves behind his cherished daughters-in-law, Katt and Latisha, and nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own: Tammy, Syreeta, Taurus, Timmy, Sam, and Torian. He is also survived by his loving sister, Patricia Burrell, and his sister-in-law, Katherine Burrell (wife of the late Thomas Burrell).

Kenneth's memory will be deeply cherished by his beloved grandchildren: Brenda, Joy, Kevin, Christopher, London, Xavier (twins), Lyric, Peyton, and Marlei, and his precious great-grandson, Benjamin. His spirit lives on through his great nephews and niece: Tiezayah, Damir, Mckayla, Izayah, Danel (Lil D), TJ (Tank), and Jacob (Jake).

He is also survived by his dear aunts, Chris Durant and Dorothy, and his uncle, Massey Rose. Kenneth leaves behind his "Big Brother" Garnett Allen, "Little Brother" Marc Harris Moulie Baby, a host of cherished cousins, and his loyal best friends: Ricky, Bones, Dobbs, Henry, and Vaughn. Kenneth held a boundless love for his family and friends. His cousins, like Buddy and Wendy, were more akin to a brother and sister to him, and his friends were truly an extended family. We will truly miss Kenneth Burrell, a remarkable soul who touched so many lives.
