Lena McCray Godbolt was born on October 8, 1946, to Deacon Thomas and Carrie Bell McCray in Bucksport, SC. God saw fit to call her home on August 24, 2024.
Lena attended the public schools in Horry County and graduated from Whittemore High School in 1963.
At an early age, Lena received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and she remained a devoted servant at Jerusalem Chapel Missionary Baptist Church her entire life. She served faithfully as the church secretary for many years.
On April 25, 1977, Lena was joined in holy matrimony by Leonard Godbolt. During this union, they raised two children together Russell and Kimberly.
Lena was employed at AVX Corporation for many years. During times of layoff, Lena worked at Hardee's in Myrtle Beach SC, and as a substitute teacher in the Horry County School District.
Being a caregiver at heart, she took on several caregiver opportunities after retirement.
Lena’s life and how she lived will continue to be present in the lives of many who loved her. Lena was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Godbolt, her parents Thomas and Carrie Bell McCray, and four brothers: Thomas McCray Jr., Glennie McCray, Lee King McCray, and Truman McCray.
She leaves to cherish precious memories: one sister: Daisy Merle of Detroit, MI. Two children: Russell (Gail) McCray, and Kimberly (Chris) Green. Five grandchildren: Jerrika Self, Brandon McCray, Christopher (Briana) Green Jr, Breanda Green, and Ryan McCray. Five great-granddaughters: Skylar Brown, Bailey Turner, Charlotte Turner, Maleah Marie Wilds, and Calliope Green. Two stepsons Calvin Godbolt and Theodore Godbolt both of Syracuse NY. And a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Jerusalem Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Mishoe Family Cemetery. There will be a viewing from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Ocean View Funeral Home and Beach Crematory, Conway Chapel.
