Mr. Leroy Johnnie Bryant, son of the late James Bryant and Nell Drakes, was born on May 21, 1954, in Green Sea, South Carolina. He departed this life on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Leroy, affectionately known as Bubba, attended Brunswick County Schools where he remained an active part of the community serving in many ways. He began his professional career early in life with several local restaurants, such as Captain John’s and Dockside while also being employed with area golf courses simultaneously. Leroy later joined West Brunswick High School as a janitor where he retired after 20 years of service. Bubba developed a passion for landscaping early in life and maintained his own business of providing pristine manicured lawns to those who had the pleasure of his service. Bubba was an outgoing and friendly man of God who always greeted you with a smile and often shared a good line of joke and wit. Leroy will be sorely missed by all those who had the pleasure to experience his joy.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, James Bryant and Nell Drake; his sister, Gloria Bryant; and longtime partner, Helen McCray.
He leaves behind to remember his example of exemplary diligence towards life and any challenge that comes, to his children, Melinda McCray of Trenton, NJ, Sabrina McCray of Shallotte, NC, Stephanie (Rohan) Solomon of Little River, SC, Raheem McCray, of Atlanta Georgia, and Tyquan (Jasmine) Ash of Carey, NC; two very special children, Rolland Ash of Seoul, South Korea, and Neisha Ash of North Myrtle Beach, SC; his grandchildren, Yoshamel Gerald, Emmanuel Gerald, Glorious Gerald, Sincere McCray, Alkhazed Gerald, Queen Gerald, Javan McCray, Queen Gerald, Jaquel Davis and Aaliyah Nicole Ash; countless friends and family will feel the void of his absence.
