Mary Ethal Brown Gadson was born on August 26, 1940, to the late Inez Thompson and Mack Brown in Georgetown, South Carolina.
She graduated from Howard High School in Georgetown, South Carolina in 1958. Following her graduation, she moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where she became a domestic worker; working as many as three jobs at a time to provide for her family. She was well known around the Booker T. Washington Community as a hard worker.
Mary was a committed and lifetime member of Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Lynwood Gadson, Benjamin Gadson and Jahsiri (Chris) Moyenda of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; three brothers, John Brown, James Brown, and Abraham Brown of Georgetown, South Carolina; five sisters, Margrett Thompson Vereen of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Shirley Myers, Aleathin McZeke, Mary Sumpter, and Marie Brown all of Georgetown, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Daja Sherron and Nyru Williams.
Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Linda Gadson; one son, Timothy (Sissy) Gadson, both of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Most notably, her cousin, Mosela (Bobby) Johnson of Georgetown, South Carolina, Hattie Myers of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and dear friend, Deacon John King.
