Mary Hicks Obituary

On November 15, 2020, Mary Lee Williams McCray Hicks was called home to rest to be with her Savior. Mary was the daughter of the Late Mr. John Herbert & Gracie Johnson Williams. She attend Richardson Training School and graduate from Whittemore High School Class of 1969. She retired from Horry County Department of Social Services after 21 years of faithful services, and also worked for Waccamaw EOC as Intake Clerk for a number of years. After retirement she worked as a Volunteer for Waccamaw EOC. She was a faithful member of Bucksport Senior Center.

At an early age she joined Jerusalem Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Later in life, she joined Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church and was a member until she passed.

She married Willie James McCray, Feb. 10, 1951, who preceded her in death and to their union is 12 children. Her second union was to Thomas Jefferson Hicks on Sept. 4, 1983 and he has 9 children. She leaves a foundation of love to her husband Thomas Jefferson Hicks, and their children, five sons, Herbert (Lizzie) McCray, Sidney (Evelyn) McCray, Leslie McCray, Larry (Kim) McCray, and Reginald (Sharon) McCray, four daughters, Jacqueline Weaver, Carolyn Henry, Gayle Howard, and Patrienna (Charlie) Greene. She leaves eight additional daughters, Lottie Hicks, Dorothy Hicks, Gardenia (James) McCray, Theopia (Issac) Goss, Trudell (Tyrone) Dease, Vicky (Randy) Hunt, Diane Hicks, and Nichelle Tucker. One sister Celia Bell Nichols and three siblings preceded her into death, two brothers Robert Lee William and James D. Williams and one sister Angelina Holmes. She also cherishes the memories of her deceased children, James LeVester “Billy Boy” McCray, Cynthia McCray Jones, Gracie Bell McCray, and Thomas Hicks. She also leaves two brothers-in -law, three sisters-in-law, a special long time friend, Dorothy Sumpter Coles, and a bonus son, Charlie Bubba Sherman, and a host of nieces, nephews, other grieving relatives and many, many friends. 

Mary McCray Hicks of Bucksport passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2020.  Graveside services will be held on at 12:00 PM (noon) on Thursday, November 19, 2020, at Mishoe Cemetery in the Bucksport Community.  Ocean View Funeral Home, Conway Chapel is assisting the Hicks Family.
