Maxine S. Vereen was born on December 17, 1950, to the late Gracie E. Vereen and Gilbert D. Vereen, Sr., in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. On Monday, May 19, 2025, Maxine heard the Master’s call and entered eternal rest.
She attended Whitmore Colored School. After high school, she moved to New York and worked several jobs until she was disabled. Maxine had a passion for cooking and was known for her delicious potato salad, fried chicken, and red beans and rice with sausage.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Gracie E. Vereen and Gilbert D. Vereen, Sr.; her siblings, Gilbert D. Vereen, Jr., Gracie L. Vereen, and George E. Vereen; two children, Angela M. Dukes and Portia R. Vereen; and one grandson, Saequan L. Vereen.
Maxine leaves to cherish her memories, one daughter, Crystal A. Vereen; one son, Lamar V. Vereen; one sister, Florence M. Collins; one brother-in-law, Ted Duke; her grandchildren, Keith Vereen (Makayla Soraeya), Lenny Swinton, Shavae Shaw, Rahkiah Swinton, Anthony McCray, Dewanna (Shandre) Grayson, Lamar D. Vereen, Kylis Vereen, Nasir Vereen, and Tyrique Robinson; a host of nieces nephews, great-grandchildren, other family members and friends.
