Najalah Coates Obituary

Najalah Nafeesa Coates was born on February 3, 1990, in Newark NJ to Jewel Coates and the Late Artie Hall. She departed this earthly life on Sunday, March 9, 2025.

Najalah, who was known by everyone who loved and knew her as “NuNu,” grew up in Newark, New Jersey, until the early 2000s, when she moved to South Carolina and made it her second home state.

Najalah loved everyone from family and friends down to all sorts of animals; especially reptiles, but fell in love when she welcomed her first and only child, her baby girl, Na'Jae Maliyyah Coates Alderman with Stacy Alderman (of 10 years). NuNu doted over her daughter and was so proud of motherhood. Na'Jae, “NaNa” was her everything. NuNu spent all her time with her daughter, stepdaughters Stacy, and Destiny, and enjoyed time with her sister Khamiysha Coates and the rest of the family. If they weren't around, she was on the phone with them or on video calls. She made sure she kept in contact with everyone. NuNu was the peacemaker and always brought sunshine to a cloudy day. She loved teaching her daughter new things and was very educational with her. NuNu also loved doing nails, arts and crafts projects and we will never forget her love for animals.

Najalah was preceded in death by her father, Artie Hall; brother, Ibn Coates; nephews, Marcel Bridges, Jr. and Master Michael Floyd.

She leaves behind many to love and cherish her memory her mother, Jewel Coates; her daughter, Na'Jae Maliyyah Coates Alderman; her sister, Khamiysha Coates; her brother, Jamal Coates; a significant other, Stacy Alderman; step-daughters, Stacy and Destiny; half-siblings and first cousins, Artie Hall, Jr., Lorie H., Safiyyah A., and Aljathiyyah W; best friends, Sade Keyton and Serena Williams (Na'Jae’s Godmother); special sisters, Latoya Bridges, and Devin Bridges; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
