Mrs. Nancy “Nana” Dennison Austin passed away peacefully after a brief illness on May 3, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Arrington “Spank” Dennison and Annie Lee Vinning. She was born on June 3, 1940, and raised in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
She was a 1958 graduate of Whittemore High School, Conway, South Carolina. She married Charles Austin on February 28, 1965, and the family traveled to the Philippines, Spain, and Oklahoma. During that time, she was a full-time Homemaker. Upon returning to Myrtle Beach, she worked several hospitality jobs, followed by positions at Quick as a Wink Cleaners and Grand Strand Health Care (now Angel Oak). She retired from Grand Strand Health Care after working there for over 20 years.
She was a faithful and devoted member of Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church. She attended Church School and Bible Study dutifully, sang in the Senior Choir, served on the Steward Board, and was a dedicated member of the Women’s Missionary Society. She rarely met a stranger. Upon retirement, she joined the Grand Strand Senior Center, where she encountered and socialized with many individuals. She especially loved Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Senior Center when they played Bingo. She always invited the Senior Center members to attend Mount Olive AME Church. Several of them are currently attending Mount Olive AME Church and have joined the congregation because of her invitation! A woman of deep faith, she loved the Lord and her church. She was loving, kind, and generous, and she always enjoyed socializing, shopping, and being with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Austin.
Nancy was a loving mother and doting Nana. She supported and prayed for her children and grandchildren continuously. Her legacy will be cherished fondly by her five children, Wilbur Dennison, Terry Dennison (Pam Mazyck), Priscilla Ann Pickett, Wanda (Jerome) Randall, and Pamela (Matthias) Grissett; “chosen sister” Martha (Hamp) Pitts; nine grandchildren, Arrington (Porrsha) Dennison, Narada Pickett, Terry (Ashley) Dennison Jr., Danzel Dennison, Chelsey Curry, Corey Dennison, Emery Warren Dennison, Austin Randall, and Adam Randall; four great-grandchildren, Queasean Vereen, Amber Sanders, Jayla Pickett, and Kingston Dennison; Also, to cherish her memory are many relatives, friends, and neighbors.
