Odessa Simmons of Myrtle Beach passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024.
Odessa Skinner Simmons was born to the late Roosevelt Skinner Sr. and Laura Lee Skinner in Conway, South Carolina on November I4, I958. In I976, she graduated from Conway High School and started working at the Gay Dolphin. In I984 she became the Manager at Revco. In I997 she earned a degree in Business Administration and Early Childhood Development. In I998 she opened Your Neighborhood Childcare Development Center and worked there as the director of the center until 20I6 due to a decline in her health. She spent her remaining years enjoying her grandkids and extended family.
Odessa was well known for her spicy sense of style. She was "Ms. Decor"; she loved decorating her home from top to bottom. Her friends always asked questions about her home decor ideas. She inherited her green thumb from her Mama and always had a house full of beautiful plants. Dessa thought diamonds were a girl's best friend. She loved elephants and just being outside. Odessa grew up attending Faith Temple COGIC and knew the power of prayer.
Odessa was preceded in death by her father Roosevelt Skinner Sr., and brother, Roosevelt Skinner Jr. She leaves to mourn her memories: her husband Robert Simmons; mother, Laura Lee Skinner; her children, Myron Vereen, Maurice Vereen, Micah Vereen, and Melissa Simmons; her sisters, Evelyn Wright and Rolaetta Alford; her brother, Keith O'Neal Skinner; her grandchildren, Marlei Dominic SaeQuan Vereen, Micah Tykeem Vereen, Calvin Tymeek Vereen, Kyrese Pedro Vereen, Davis Makye Vereen, London Craig, Eli Anthony Vereen, and Ashlyn Randall; her greatgrandchildren, MyAngel Vereen, Christen Vereen, Zander Vereen, Amyiah Vereen, and Kyrie Anthony Vereen. Also, to cherish her memories she leaves her aunt, Mary Jones-Edna, her uncles, LeVan (Thelma) Skinner, and Earl Swinton-Babe; her nephews and nieces, Shaunette (Kenneth) Gathers, Torillo Flores, William Wright Jr., Michael Alford, Malachi (Nickelle) Alford, Maalik Alford, Ilisha Skinner, Lakedia Skinner, Keith Skinner Jr., Khalid Skinner, Montel Gause, and Keishon Skinner along with a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, and great friends from over the past 60 plus years.
Our Sincerest Gratitude
Thank you for your kindness, support, and comforting words. We greatly appreciate the many cards, flowers, and outpouring of love of sympathy during our time of remembrance of our beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and relatives.
