Purcell Lewis

Purcell Lewis, the son of the late James R. and Louis Johnson Lewis, was born on January 26, 1957 in New York. He departed this life on May 15, 2021 at Conway Medical Center after a brief illness.

He was proceeded in death by his siblings, Butch, Rose, Diane, and Sylvia Lewis.

Purcell Lewis attended the public schools of Bronx, NY. He later attended a trucking school in South Carolina, then he was employed as a truck driver. Driving trucks was his profession for over 40 years. He understood the Highway and of the 50 states he traveled 48 of the states within the US.

Purcell was a kind, loving and friendly person, and if you were a stranger, you would not have been one for long because of his bubbly personality. There was nothing no one could do to stop him from helping anyone he can. If Purcell could teach you anything, he would. He took great care of his family and, would give his last. He would make certain you had clothes on your back and food to eat. Anytime you needed him he was always a phone call away.

Purcell was a member of Jerusalem Chapel as a young man but, due to trucking he seldom had a chance to attend the church. He was very humble and grateful and would not leave anyone out.

Purcell was married and leaves 3 three children, Purcell Codie Young, Kerine Young and Yasmean Young, he also had 2 stepchildren, Zion and Isreal Graham. 3 grandchildren, Khalil, Keynarae and Yanae Young, sister Janet Lewis, a brother, Sylvester Lewis, 4 Aunts, Carnie Gillspie of Bladenboro, NC, Johaia Faye Cater of Greensboro, NC, Pearl Johnson of Bucksport, SC and Lenona Lewis of Columbus Ohio, one uncle, Bishop Elroy Lewis of Chapel Hill, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Purcell Lewis of Conway passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2021, at Conway Medical Center. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at Owens Cemetery, Bucksport.  Ocean View Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Conway Chapel is assisting the Lewis Family.
