Rebecca Parmley Stanley of the Cochran Community, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024. 

The Obituary

On February 4, 2024, the Lord said, “Well done thy good and faithful servant!” gave her wings and allowed her to fly home to be with Him!

Rebecca Parmley Stanley was born on September 13, 1952, in Conway, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Eugene and Ella Hill Parmley.

Rebecca was educated in the Horry County School District and was a graduate of the 1970 class of Whittemore High School. She graduated from Horry Georgetown Technical College and began her work career at the AVX Corporation. She worked for the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base as Civilian Personnel until the closing of the Air Base in 1993. Rebecca began a career with the State of South Carolina in the Department of Juvenile Justice and was later

employed with Horry County Government as a Risk Manager until her retirement in 2018. Rebecca believed in being an active community servant. She was a Past Commandress of Kaaba Court #187 Daughters Auxiliary and Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Stars Willing Worker Chapter # 323. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and transferred her church membership to Greater St. James AME Church where she served as the church secretary for over 35 years. She was a member of the Steward Board, the Women’s Missionary Society, and the Quarterly Conference Secretary. Rebecca was also a member of the Senior Choir, Inspirational Choir, and the Spiritual Voices at Greater St. James.

She was preceded in death by both her parents, her brothers, Eugene, Jr., Michael, Steven, and Titus; and her sisters Rozella, Harriet, and Janice.

Rebecca is survived by her husband of 53 years, Henry Blanton Stanley; her son Derrick (Jewell) Stanley of Lugoff, SC, and her daughter, LaTanya (Jerome) Bellamy of Conway, SC; four grandchildren, Zaria Bellamy, Kyndal Bellamy, Devin Stanley, and Peyton Stanley; and great-grandchildren Jaxson Blanton Bellamy and Miracle Jackson. She is also survived by her nephew, Mikkel (Michelle) Parmley and niece, Tina (Taylor) Njagu, whom she also raised. Also left to cherish her memory are a sister, Dora Parmley (Tom) Hedger, of Arlington, TX; three brothers, John Charles, George (Mary) Parmley of Conway, SC, and Horace Parmley of Los Angeles, CA; sisters-in-law, Velmenia Stanley of Washington, DC, Sadie Parmley of Myrtle Beach, SC, Cora Stanley of Bronx, NY and Elizabeth Parmley of Mullins, SC, and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Greater St. James AME Church.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  There will be a viewing from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, on Friday, February 9, 2024, at the Greater St. James AME Church. Ocean View Funeral Home and Beach Crematory, Conway Chapel is assisting the Stanley Family.
