Rev. George Swift, Jr. of Myrtle Beach passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.
George Rutherford Swift, Jr. was born November 3, I950, in Charlottesville, VA (Albemarle County). He departed life on July I8, 2023, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Madelyn H. Jones, father, George R. Swift, Sr., stepfather, Robert W. Jones, Sr., brother, Richard L. Swift, daughter, Crystal Y. Jordan and son, Dana N. Jordan Sr.
George was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps and later retired from the City of Baltimore Law Enforcement. George cared so much about his Co-Workers and their rights, that he became the President of CMEA, an Employee Union in Baltimore City. George received his Associate of Arts Degree from Community College of Baltimore in I979, his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Maryland in I982, and his Masters's Degree in Theology from Lancaster Theological Seminary in 2008. George also became an active Mason. After retirement, in 20I0 George relocated to Myrtle Beach, SC to begin a fresh start as a retiree.
George became a faithful member at Sandy Grove Baptist Church and served as an Associate Pastor. George was known to many as a kind and giving person who cared for and helped those around him. George made it his business to do random acts of kindness regularly for people he did not know. George loved God, family & friends, to cook, entertain, and ride his motorcycle. George loved to serve Veterans and volunteered his services to assist those who served this country at the VA in Myrtle Beach. It was his dream to open an American Legion post in Myrtle Beach and the later part of 2022, he orchestrated a team who assisted him in making his dream a reality where he became the Commander of Post I96.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted daughter, Tarsha L. Swift; sons, Richard Swift & Dudley Jordan; two sisters, Catherine Washington and Erica Newsome (Randy); devoted grandchildren, Dana Jordan Jr. and Dashia Jordan; devoted nieces, Cheryl Spain and Raeshaun Jones; devoted friend/brother of 40+ years, Vince DiPetri (Sandy); dearest and devoted friend Michelle Reid and a host of many more loving family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church. There will be a viewing from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Friday, July 28, 2023, at Ocean View Funeral Home and Beach Crematory, Myrtle Beach Chapel. Interment will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, July 31, 2023, at Florence National Cemetery.
