Rev. James Alston Vereen was called to Eternal Rest on Saturday, April 29, 2025. "Alston" was the son of the late Henry and Eva Lewis Vereen.
He attended the public schools of Horry County and at an early age he joined Popular A.M.E. Church of Wampee, South Carolina. Upon graduating from high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in Vietnam. He found employment with NC Detective Agency for numerous years.
Alston leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 52 years, Beulah Mae Gore Vereen; his daughter, Felicia Vereen; his son Toby (Kendra) Vereen; six grandchildren, Torenzo, Tomario, To’Marco, Jalen, Kobe, and Sydney; seven great-grandchildren; seven brothers, Ethell (Martha) Vereen, Isiah (Loretta) Vereen, Issac Lee (LaShonda) Vereen, London Vereen, Revell (Charlie)Vereen and Rodell (Vone) Vereen, all of Wampee, South Carolina, and Micheal(Martha)Vereen of New Orleans, Louisiana; two sisters, Azalea (Dennis) Neal of Wampee, South Carolina, and Hazel (Norris) Hemingway of New Orleans, Louisiana; four sisters-in-law, Betty Bennett of Iron Hill North Carolina, Elnetha Gause, Lucial Skinner and Janice Gilbert of Loris, South Carolina; three brothers-in-law, Leroy Johnson, Charles Ray Hemingway and Clerance Hemingway of Loris, South Carolina, and many family and friends.
