Our beloved mother, Shirley Ann Barnes, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 27, 2022, in the comfort of her home, Our beloved mother, Shirley Ann Barnes, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 27, 2022, in the comfort of her home.

Shirley was born in Rock Hill, SC to Patrick Dunn and Annie Dunn-Robinson. She was then raised in Brooklyn, NY for most of her childhood.  Shirley was passionate about family, living a life pleasing to the Lord, and taking care of others.  On March 2, 1963, Shirley married Robert Barnes and they lived a very happy and adventurous life together until his passing. Shirley was a very strong woman who spent her life as a loving daughter, sister, wife, and mother while raising six children. Our family will miss Shirley dearly.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Robert Barnes; her parents, Patrick Dunn and Annie Dunn-Robinson; her brother, Johnny Robinson, her son, Dewayne Barnes and daughter-in-law Theresa Dunn. She leaves behind her brother Edmond (Blondie) Daniel, five children, Wanda (Ernest) Floyd, Raymond Dunn, Darryl (Sharon) Barnes, Michael (Anna) Barnes, Lisa Barnes, and daughter-in-law Tammie Barnes and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Words from the eldest child, Wanda Floyd

“My mother was a loving and kind woman, a very hard worker.  She loved everybody.  We got to share thoughts with each other while she spent time with me for the past 2 years. We had a lot of good times together.  One day she told me “Wanda, you’re my daughter, I love you and I really appreciate you taking care of me.” Those words will forever be in my heart. She loved gospel music, she loved to dance, she loved to sing, and I really enjoyed the last days that I had to spend with her. It hurt me when I knew she had taken her last breath, but I also knew she was going to a better place. Mother dear, now all your pain and suffering are gone.  You have gone home to be with the Lord.”

Shirley Ann Barnes of Conway passed on June 27, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Saint Delight Church, Little River, SC.  There will be a viewing from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Ocean View Funeral Home and Beach Crematory, Conway Chapel.  Interment will be at Pine Island Community Cemetery.
