Tellatha Hemingway Obituary

Surely he hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. Isaiah 53:4

Our beloved Tellatha E. Hemingway was born on April 4, 1950, to the late Clinton and Blumia Shields Evans in Horry County, South Carolina. She made a peaceful transition to her eternal home on August 8, 2025, at 10:09PM, surrounded by her family and loved ones while at the home of her sister Bathine E. Wilson.

Tellatha was a 1968 graduate of Chestnut Consolidated High School. After graduation, she moved to Brooklyn New York. She was employed with AT&T Telephone Company for numerous years; she also worked as a realtor. While living in New York she attended Bridge Street AME Church. In 2006 she relocated back home to South Carolina. She worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina and Staples Office Supply store. She decided to retire for a few years and focus on her well-being and spend time with her family and friends. Then later in 2024 she worked part-time at the Avista Resort alongside her cousin Lee Ann Evans, she enjoyed interacting and meeting people from all parts of the world. Tellatha had strong faith and a kind heart, spreading warmth and friendliness to those around her.

Tellatha was a faithful member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, where she served in various capacities to include the Usher Ministry, the Lay Organization, and the Pastor Aide. She assisted her church wherever help was needed. When she was not at her home church Mt. Zion, she would attend Wellspring Fellowship Church in Myrtle Beach, SC.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Leroy Evans and William Evans; and two sisters, Florrie Thomas and Carrie Evans.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories two sons, Rodney Hemingway of Little River, SC. and Anthony (Rondell) Hemingway of Brooklyn, New York; four brothers, Henry Evans of Fairmont NC., Levie (Dorothy) Evans of Mt. Vernon, NY., Reeo (Cristina) Evans of Raleigh, NC., and Steve (Wilma) Evans of Poplar SC.; seven sisters, Easter Bellamy of Little River, SC., Lorriane (Jackie) Jackson of Longs, SC., Helen Scott of Little River, SC., Gloria Evans of New Jersey, Linda (Russell) Davis of Sumter, SC., Bathine E.
