Terry Alfonza Burroughs, Jr. beloved son, father, brother, and friend, passed away on September 27, 2024, at the age of 38. He was born on July 28, 1986, in Conway, South Carolina to Terry and Charlene Burroughs, Sr. Terry was the shining light in his family, always bringing joy and inspiration to those around him. His early years were filled with promise as he blossomed into a star athlete with a talent for basketball that seemed destined for greatness. His skill and dedication to the game left a lasting impression on all who watched him play and his love for sports continued throughout his life. Terry attended Socastee High School where he graduated with the class of 2004 earning himself a basketball scholarship to West Virginia University. Terry was employed with Amazon and worked as a Supervisor in their Distribution Center.
Terry was a man of many talents, not just on the court; but also in life. He had a remarkable way with his words, and a gift for making others feel seen, heard, and understood. Whether offering advice, sharing stories, or cracking jokes, he could light up any room and bring comfort to those who needed it most. People were naturally drawn to Terry’s warm spirit and his love for others was evident in all his many relationships.
Outside of basketball, Terry had a deep passion for bowling. He enjoyed the camaraderie it brought, spending many cherished evenings at the lanes with friends and family; always competing with the same fervor he brought to every endeavor.
More than anything, Terry, Jr. loved his children. They were the center of his world and he took immense pride in watching them grow. Each chapter of his life from his early days as an athlete to his role as a father was filled with love and joy. His presence in their lives will be missed but never forgotten, as his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Terry, Jr. was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charlie and Eartherlean Johnson, Jr. and Cora Lee Burroughs-Smalls; aunt, Michelle Page; uncle, John Bellamy.
Terry, Jr. is survived by his parents, Terry and Charlene Burroughs, Sr.; his siblings, Tocarra Sumpter, Seemone Bellamy and Derrick Burroughs; his five beautiful children, Terry Maddox, Beckett, Addie, Valin, and Aris; aunts, Carolyn (Charles) Sims, Cynthia Johnson, Wanda Dewitt, Sheila Coley, Priscilla Ann Smalls, Nysha (Richard) Cochran, Doris Burroughs, Elmita (Maurice) Amey, Sharolyn (Rodrick) Sellers, Nicole (Mitch) Brown, Jenna (Little) Jackson, and Sarah Stanley; uncles, Bennie (Lynn) Burroughs, John (Jeanette) Smalls, Rodney (Marie) Ford, Cornell (Mary) Ford, James (Cindy) Robinson, Thomas (Lisa) Ford, and John Ford; a loving host of cousins, nieces, and nephews that loved him dearly.
Terry, Jr.’s love, laughter, and legacy will remain with us forever. Rest in peace Terry, you will always be remembered as a man who gave so much to the world, and whose love for life and family knew no bounds.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Owens Cemetery. There will be a viewing from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Monday, October 7, 2024, at Ocean View Funeral Home and Beach Crematory, Conway Chapel.
