Twylla Mae Ford, 85, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024, at Brightwater Senior Living, Myrtle Beach, SC.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, November 16, 2024, at Saint Peter Lutheran Church in Southport, NC. The Rev. Jason W. Huebner officiating.
Twylla was born on September 17, 1939, in Newman, IL, the daughter of Floyd and Orthalyne Rahn. She spent her early years on a farm in Tuscola, IL, where she developed a deep love for her extended family, a green thumb, and a passion for ice cream. She learned to be a superb baker and skilled craftsman from her mother.
Twylla graduated from Tuscola Community High School in 1956 and forever thought of herself as a “Tuscola girl”. She worked as a high school reporter for the Tuscola Journal Newspaper, as well as a cashier at the Tuscola National Bank and an organist at church. She married James Ford on February 27, 1960, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tuscola. Little did she know that after having three children, she would make a life-changing move to the east coast.
In 1967, Twylla moved their young family to Rockaway Township, NJ, where she began her 30+ year career as an accountant for Honeywell. She was a well-respected, active member of the community, always helping in the schools and serving in PTA leadership roles. She was also an involved member of King of Kings Lutheran Church, volunteering on the Alter Guild, Preschool Board, and Stephen Ministry.
In 2000, she retired to Southport, NC, where she immersed herself in the community. She greatly enjoyed bringing neighbors together by organizing dinners and outings. She loved a good card game and elaborately decorating for Christmas. She was a devoted and dedicated member of Saint Peter Lutheran Church, serving on various committees and a dependable soul helping whenever asked.
Twylla was a strong woman who loved life. She will be remembered by all who knew her as a loyal and generous friend.
She is survived and missed by her daughter: Deborah Weeks and husband, Matthew, of North Myrtle Beach, SC; her grandson: Christopher Weeks of New York City, NY; her brother: Wendell Rahn, and wife, Carole, of Carmel, IN; and nieces Julie Rahn of Evanston, IL and Marilee Rahn of Indianapolis, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sons, David and Mark Ford.
