Valerie Robinson Obituary

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die…”  Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

Valerie Denye Grice Robinson, born on August 18, 1964, in Conway, South Carolina, was the daughter of the late Catherine “Sally” Anderson Grice and the late James Grice, Jr.  Val, as she was affectionately called by her family and close friends, departed this earthly life Wednesday evening May 19, 2021.

Val received her education in Horry County Schools and was a proud graduate of the Conway High School Class of 1983. She loved to laugh and spend time with loved ones.

Val was extremely devoted to God, her family, friends, and work. She accepted Christ as her personal savior and was baptized at an early age at Bethlehem #1 Missionary Baptist Church.  She remained a member at Bethlehem and served as an usher until she departed.  Val worked for 35 years in many capacities at Walmart.

Val is preceded in death by her husband, Adrian “Ricky” Robinson; grandmothers, Alberta “Pie” Anderson and Liza Grice; grandfathers, Fred Anderson and James Grice, Sr; aunts, Naomi Anderson, Christine Gardner, and Elizabeth Middleton; and uncles, Nathaniel “Jack” Anderson, Charlie Grice and Tommy Grice.

Val leaves to cherish loving memories her sisters Sophia Bethea and Jamye Grice, both of Conway, SC; a great uncle, Roland Johnson, of Canton, OH; a great aunt, Robin Johnson of Canton, OH; four aunts, Ola (Pete ) Wilks, Diane Grice, both of Conway, SC Maxine Grice Walker of Rains, SC and Katrina Lewis of Darlington, SC.; three uncles, Robert Anderson and Oscar (Bernice) Anderson, both of Conway, Charles (Gloria) Anderson of Massillon, OH, Purvis (Jean) Grice of Waianae, HI,  Eddie (Val) Grice of Myrtle Beach, SC, Larry Grice of Latta, SC and Willie Grice of Inglewood, New Jersey; a multitude of cousins who filled in the gap as loving brothers and sisters; and a host of nieces and nephews that she loved more than life itself and it was definitely reciprocated; two godchildren, Jayla Parmley and Christopher McDonald; and a special friend, James Gagum. Val had several friends that she thought of as sisters; one, in particular, was Gwen Powell.

We know for certain that we never lose the people we love, not even to death.  Val will continue to reflect upon us in every act, thought, and decision we make. Her love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories and our hearts.
